Negative Supply Film Carrier MK1 for camera scanning Launched on Kickstarter

By Hamish Gill

As the inventor of pixl-latr, you might guess the film scanning with a digital camera space is a very interesting and exciting topic to me. Which is why when new products that occupy this space come to market, my ears prick up. Actually, in many ways the Negative Supply Film Carrier is a competing product to pixl-latr, but in no way does that discourage me from wanting to share it here. To my mind – with the likes of even Noritsu ceasing production of film scanners – the more products and innovation in this space, the better!

The Negative Supply Film Carrier best described as a “higher-end “product than pixl-latr. It currently only works with 35mm, but does have a built in film advance mechanism – they are also developing versions for 120 and 4×5 film. I’ve been chatting with AJ Holmes, one of the co-founders, about the film carrier and it’s quite clear that a lot of hard work has gone into the development of this product.

Like pixl-latr, the Negative Supply Film Carrier is designed to work with full uncut strips of 35mm film, and with the pro mount and anti-static brush, it even cleans the film of dust as the negative runs through it. Once the film is loaded it is placed above a light source and with a digital camera mounted above it, a shot can be taken of the film which can then be edited in software to create a final image.

Negative Supply Film Carrier has just launched on kickstarter with a 48hr early bird price of $249 and $279 after the early bird phase. For the Film Carrier MK1 + Pro Mount MK1 + anti-static brush kit, it’s $399 early bird, and $429 after that phase ends.

It's way too expensive for what it is. You can get a Lomo Digitaliza for 20 or 30 bucks & it pretty much does the same thing. Then just buy a rocket blower & you're good to go at a fifth of their price. Or a Pixl-Latr. I hear that goes pretty ok too... ;-)

I thought I had fixed that - it should be available in august/september - everything has taken a lot longer than expected, unfortunately
