F8 team head shots

By Hamish Gill

We’ve taken on some new staff at work recently, and as such decided it about time we all had new team head shots, or at least everyone else’s were brought inline with the ones me and Greg have been using.

If you’ve seen my Twitter account you might recognise this slightly awkward-fingered picture of me.

MeI don’t particularly like the picture, but then it’s of me and who does like pictures of themselves?! This is Greg’s, I’m not sure he likes his either… Greg

What is right about them though is the tone. We are quite a relaxed bunch at work. Myself and Greg (co-directors of F8 Creates ltd), have always taken what is probably best described as a relaxed approach. We run a creative agency, (branding, graphic design, photography, video etc etc) and as such have never felt it appropriate to dress in suits and ties – it’s just not our thing. Of course, there is a lot more to it than just not wearing suits, and that “lot more” is what we wanted to represent in our staff head shots. Hopefully these shots say that “lot more” without me having to say to much …

I’m very happy with the shots taken with the 50mm Sonnar – I’ll be publishing my review soon, if you want to know when that happens, feel free to subscribe below.

Great head shots. Incidentally, I have started a very small project last week with my newest film camera and a roll of tri-x, shooting portraits of colleagues. However, looking at your head shots I realise that I should have gone in closer than I have done. I haven't seen my results yet, but I still have some shots left on my roll, so I might try again next week...
Thanks for the inspiration!

No problem! There is nothing wrong with a wider angle portrait - these were very much intended as head shots. You will have to show me your results!

I'll be going from my Fuji X100S to a new system next year and have been increasingly interested in a 50mm focal length. I've been looking at the Sonnar for it (A7II series).

I've a lot to say in my review. It should be coming in the next week or so. It's not ultra sharp, but has loads of character. For a camera with all those pixels, you might have more joy with the 55mm 1.8 Sonnar, which I also have - it's very good, in a modern way!
