My Canonet is the older, larger, model. It was manufactured in the early Sixties and eventually found its way from Belgium to me a few years ago.
It was a rather major experience for me, since it was the first camera I bought for myself, after I had started to service and sell used cameras in my webshop. I felt that the camera was heavy with history and I was sort of humbled by that. I’d only ever owned new-ish cameras before, like an Olympus XA and a Seagull TLR.
So, after aquiring another, smaller, similar camera I decided that the Canonet was the b&w holiday camera. But not just any holiday, but particularly for our special place on the east coast which we visited once or twice every spring and autumn.
We could borrow a little house in a little seaside town which oozes with history and nostalgia since it is an ancient fishing town (now holiday home) with old wooden houses lining the lanes, and pines and apple trees all over the sandy slopes. When we visited it would be deserted, and the cold wind would force us indoors at times. But we would most often during the week-end get the last of the warm summer breezes or, in spring, the first taste of summer sun.
Now, we live far away. But I wish and hope for us to visit again before long. Of course there are more tasks for my Canonet. But colour film – no.
Thanks for reading. I hope you like the pictures.
