Cornwall 2015 – The last day – The Lost Gardens of Heligan

By Hamish Gill

For the last day, we wanted to do something we knew we would all really enjoy. Me, Connie and Hannah all like animals, so thought we might try and find some sort of sanctuary or farm park. Flicking through a local guide book, Hannah found something called The Lost Gardens of Heligan. It had a picture of a little pig in the advert and sounded quite interesting, so we decided to go.

What we didn’t know was that it was actually the thing that inspired the Eden Project and was quite closely affiliated with it. In fact, unlike us, if you plan ahead to go to both, they do a joint ticket. Though if you only have time to go to one, I’d pick Heligan, it’s a lot more natural and relaxing place to go to I think. It also didn’t feel as busy, perhaps because it’s huge, but also because I’m not sure it’s quite as well known as the Eden Project. There were bits of it that we walked around where we didn’t see anyone for a good few minutes. Yet there was much more to keep Connie entertained compared to just going for a walk in the countryside.

Cornwall 2015 - Last DaySince it was the last night of the holiday, we all went out for a meal in a near by pub.

The end of a holiday is always a little sad. Thankfully, the next morning, the day we were due to leave, it was raining and miserable. It made the end of the holiday a little easier to swallow, though I’m not sure Connie thought so.
