5 Frames with Minolta Dynax 500si Super – By Matt Krajewski

By Pure.amateur

I have some collection of Minolta and Konica cameras. Most of them still haven’t been used… but they will at some point. The Minolta Dynax 500si Super was my first AF film camera. I must say, I’ve felt in love with it straight away. Why? Well, for the starters, it is so easy to use, you have PASM, some other pre-set modes, double exposure, auto focus is fast enough and it sits in my hand just perfect! Super is slightly better model than standard Dynax 500 by having metal lens mount… and possibly something else. Thanks to this camera I understood principles of photography. I carried it with me for most of the time and took it to America where she was  used more than my Sony A7.

I’m not saying it’s perfect camera for everyone, it’s not anymore for me, but I think it’s a great tool for someone who wants to get into film photography at very low price. I’ve found it easy and enjoyable to use, I’m sure everyone would.

Most of the photos were shot either on Kodak Color Plus 200 or some expired film while in America and in Glasgow. In my opinion, metering is good and focus was always spot.

I still have it in my display, possibly because I’m quite attached to it. Will I use it again? Most likely never. Will I put it on ebay? Yeah, possibly quite soon.

Thanks for reading,

Matt

Always great to see a Minolta in action, I’m a big fan of their cameras and lenses. Great images too Matt, especially the one of the Golden Gate

Dear Matt ...
Yes. The Minolta AF 500Si is a very good camera to enter into photography...
I had the 500SI (not super) with me for a little over two years before graduating to the magnificent 700 SI.
I must have exposed about 200 rolls of Kodak, Ilford and Fuji and got very good results (with a af 28 mm, 50 mm, 85 mm and a 28-50 mm zoom lens.
Very satisfying work indeed ... Small, easy to handle and light in weight the 500 SI could be handled easily even with one hand, the camera, I'd rate as one of the better models made by Minolta ...
Many thanks for your interesting article and beautiful pictures.
Regards

Thanks Krishna! I am actually going to give the camera to a son of my friend who just started photography course at the college. It has quite a lot of features and will be a great tool For the assignments.
