35mmc is Now Advert-Free for Subscribers and Contributors!

Just a quick update about something that feels like a huge deal to me! I have finally got around to implementing a proper (functioning) advert-free system for regular readers and contributors to 35mmc.

There are two ways to enjoy 35mmc without the adverts – subscription and content contribution.

Subscription

For £2.99 a month, you can now login to the website and receive an advert free experience of the entire website. This login also allows you to comment on posts without having to add your email address etc. Payments are taken monthly on a subscription basis via Paypal and can be cancelled any time!

Content Contribution

This same ad-free experience is also available to everyone who has an article of any type published on the website. The ad-free experience is available for life once you have had your first article published on the website.

As a film community blog, we of course encourage all our writers to continue to add more content to the website after their first article – and whilst we do suggest at least one article a year be added to the website in return for the advert free experience of the website – this is just a goodwill thing and we won’t enforce it.

In short, if you don’t want to (can’t afford to) subscribe, and you don’t like adverts, write for 35mmc and you will see the back of the adverts forevermore!

Where the cash goes

The 35mmc workforce is made up of a small part time team with me (Hamish) doing the lions share of the work on the site. The amount of content submitted to the site, combined with a desire to constantly increase the quality and quantity of what is written through greater attention to detail when it comes to editing and curating the content, has meant that a lot of man hours go into running this website.

The revenue the advertising and subscriptions generates – when averaged out over the year – covers the cost of the time of our little part-time team, as well as covering the website expenses. These includes, WordPress, paid-for functionality, hosting, security, backups, the content delivery network, support, maintenance, updates to the site and even the cost of our subscription system.

Thank you to everyone who has so far supported the website through content or cash – it is very much appreciated!

A note to previous ad-free system users: If you signed up to our previous third party, ad-free subscription service, get in touch and I will migrate you over to the new system.
