Matt **@*********bs.com” data-hovercard-owner-id=”16″>Bechberger of Reveni Labs has just announced his new Spot Meter 3 – I am going to see if I can fit in a review of it a little bit later on in the year, but for now here’s some info on this new meter.
The Reveni Labs Spotmeter MK3 is designed as a bit of an evolution from previous models which had a 3D printed housing. This new version has a CNC’d aluminium case that’s a departure from the original (reviewed here) in terms of its form factor, but still relies on the clever way it’s used with both eye’s open. Looking into the meter with one eye, and the world outside the meter with the other gives an impression of the meter readout being projected onto the world in front of you. It take’s a second to get used to in my experience, but once in tune with it, it really does work well.
The original version of the meter was a little fiddly to use – I haven’t held this version yet, but the slightly more conventional shape looks like it might actually improve the user experience somewhat. Aside from anything else, the buttons look a little bit bigger. It also sounds like it’s had a bit of an upgrade in quality in the use of AR coated glass in the viewfinder and sensor glass – it even has built in lens caps too. For a bit of protection, there’s even a silicone case.
In addition to the features of the first version, there’s also now a flash metering mode with flash duration discharge curve and flash-to-ambient ratio display via a 240 x 240 pixel colour LCD. I was surprised by the level of features in the new version when I reviewed it, but there seems to be even more now!
