Exciting news around the 35mmc block, one of our regular contributors is currently exhibiting a series of seascapes shot on 35mm and medium format film titled “Fleurieu, Perceptions of Place”. David Hume is a visual artist from Australia and the exhibition is taking place in his hometown of Adelaide at the Praxis Artspace.
David uses different methods to create the work seen in the show such as multiple overlapping exposures, overpainting, and lenticular prints. As part of the exhibition, there is also a moving image display that uses side-by-side 35mm slide projectors. If this creation process intrigues you, then stay tuned because David has plans to share more behind the scenes and process based insights of his experience mounting a well-received exhibition in future posts.

Australian Art Guide describes David’s show:
With a notable exhibition history focussing on paintings of the Australian landscape, Hume has gained recognition for his engaging artistic responses and thematic exploration. This latest series of works marks a shift to photography and extends the range of traditional photographic techniques to offer fresh interpretations of the Fleurieu coastline. By challenging traditional notions of photography, he invites viewers to reconsider the boundaries of the medium and its ability to communicate emotions and experiences. – Australian Art Guide

Selected as a finalist for the most outstanding artwork by the South Australian Living Artist (SALA) Festival, David was also awarded recognition by the Australian Art Guide by being selected as one of the top five current art exhibitions in the nation. As a finalist for the Advertiser Contemporary Art Award in the SALA Festival, David’s work will additionally feature alongside other winners in a dedicated finalist exhibition at Keith Murdoch House in Adelaide.

Congratulations David! This looks like an amazing show. Too bad I’m in the wrong hemisphere to come see it in person.
Thanks Don!
Wonderful! Thanks for posting.
David, only someone who has produced an exhibit can understand all the effort that goes into such an undertaking. I too want to congratulate you for your current exhibition but also on being chosen as a finalist in the SALA Festival and wish you all the success you deserve. I look forward to seeing a future post with more details.
Cheers Bill!
