Petri Color 35 – Through the Viewfinder

By Hamish Gill

I don’t actually own this camera, but my interest in it is certainly increasing! A chap named Dan K (@ZDP189) on twitter has a top down view of an Minolta 7SII and Olympus 35 RC as his avatar, I’ve not seen a 35 RC in real life, it looks tiny! I asked Dan his opinion of it with my preference for a small manual camera. The answer was positive, but the Petri Color 35 was mentioned as being a very nice alternative. A few tweets back and forth and viewfinder and its merits were mentioned. I asked Dan if he would send me a picture taken through the viewfinder and he kindly obliged!

Doesn’t Dan have an amazing view?!

You can see on the right a matched needle meter and, more interestingly a distance scale across the bottom. I can definitely see the attraction of such a feature! The Petri Color 35 has now been added to my list of cameras I want to try!

Dan K seems to be very well informed enthusiast, you can find Dan K (@ZDP189) on twitter and read his blog here.

the heck! I've seen this camera once before and thought the front looked okay but after seeing more I'm really getting impressed by the sleek design!

Don't know the Petri, but I have an Oly 35 RC that came to me a year or 2 ago, and it's a smashing wee camera to look at. I haven't put a film through it yet, as the foam seals are deteriorating, but I might just do that soon, and worry about the seals later. Incidentally, it's just a few mm narrower and shallower (front-rear), than the Trip 35, so yes, it's small.

I'm watching a whole bunch of oly 35rcs on ebay at the moment ... I have been after one for a long time now!
Put a film through it, its the only way to know how those seals are getting on ;)
