Those who follow what I get up to will know I am half of Omnar Lenses. Well, today we finally announced the Omnar Bertele. I will save you all the waffle, as it can all be read on the product page on our website – suffice to say, I am very excited! Not only is this lens a Sonnar formula optic, but the it’s the first lens using our own glass and – even more awesome – it’s the first 50mm Sonnar formula lens that – thanks to our FLB system – doesn’t suffer the dreaded focus shift.

I wrote about my experiences with Sonnar lenses a few years ago where I was trying to find my perfect Sonnar… well, little did I know at the time I would be eventually part responsible for bringing my perfect Sonnar to market. Of course, the credit really is Chris’s – he’s the real genius… but being part of it is very exciting. I'm intrigued by the 'own glass' bit - formulating, grinding or assembling?

All of the previous glass we have been used has been repurposed from other cameras etc - this is glass that Chris spec'd and had made actually a while ago before Omnar technically existed when the Bertele was going to be a lens he launched as Skyllaney

Really thank you for developing this lens! It is a opto-mechanicle miracle! As I am a Sonnar fan, too, I have ordered this lens. Although expensive, I understand your efforts and enthusiasm and the FLB is really a thrilling new achievment. Thx a lot!

PS: although not relating to this lens, may I ask where you have ordered this woodem handgrip of the image above? Beautiful!

This is excellent news! your own lens! It's mouthwatering, It is beautiful and looks exquisitely made and the quality of the photos speak for themselves
I doubt I'd ever get a chance to ever handle let alone use one, but I hope all who buy it enjoy it and get the most out of it! Bravo!
