TTArtisan has created an LTM mount version of their Leica Summaron 28MM f5.6 lookalike M-mount lens. Their m-mount version which came out in 2021 was received well considering it costs a fraction of the original Summaron’s price tag.
Designed for discreet shooting, TTArtisan markets this lens as an ideal companion for street or social documentary photographers. Standing just 19mm tall, weighing only 151 g, and being rangefinder coupled, on paper it does indeed suit the need for an unobtrusive setup and ability to capture quick action.
“While the 35mm focal length is known as “the eyes of humanity”, the 28mm focal length provides a stronger feeling of depth and visual impact.” – TTArtisan

Optically, the lens features 7 elements in 4 groups. Aperture options range from F5.6 to F22 and the focus lever can be locked at infinity. The infinity lock is automatic and can be unlocked with a small pushback toward the minimum focusing distance. This is a manual focus lens with a closest focusing distance of 1m. The filter thread size is 37 mm.

Underneath the lens paint, you’ll find brass with the black version which will wear off over time. TTArtisan does warn that if the paint is manually scraped off or sanded down, the lens will not be eligible for return or exchange. They also do not recommend the polishing of the Gold, Titanium, or Silver versions.
With appropriate adaptors, this lens can fit many other camera models from Sony E-mount to Fuji X-mount to even the Fujifilm GFX mount and the Hasselblad XCD mount. You can also select an option to order an M-mount adaptor along with the LTM mount lens. Additionally, TTArtisan has made a square lens hood to accompany the lens for a retro design that comes close to the original inspiration of the Summaron 28mm F5.6.

The lens is retailing for $368 (USD). Find more information on this lens on TTArtisan’s website here.
Good news, the LTM mount is so much more versatile and accessible than the M mount
I’m going to reveal my ignorance here, but why is this lens so slow? Why is its max aperture only f/5.6 and not, say 2.8 or better? Is it just to mimic the Summaron original? I mean, even if I had gear this lens would work with, what is the impetus for getting it? Certainly not shooting in low light. And what’s all the emphasis on intentional brassing? The photo of the black paint version shows significant brassing. I guess that’s in style these days? Like the photos I’ve seen of old Leicas that were “restored” by some high-dollar restoration company to include ungodly amounts of brassing? Color me confused and out of touch, I guess . . .
That is an amazingly attractive price for a modern lens in this focal length. Well done.
