Black Rock Diving Tower is an iconic landmark in Galway, Ireland. It is situated along the picturesque Salthill promenade overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. This location has been photographed a million times but it was very great fun nonetheless to spend an hour and a roll of film to add my own little tribute to this amazing spot. It was photographed with Leica 5 and Light Lens Lab 35mm f2 Summicron replica. This was one of my last days in of the trip and I ran out of film I brought along. I picked some consumer Fuji film ( Made in USA) at a local mall. They had one of those old school 1 hour photo places which are so rare in these days. It was so much fun to watch the never ending line of people of all ages and different skill sets going up to take a dive! Amazing life guards were very observant. One of the biggest challenges for me is of course getting close to people. How many time have we heard the saying ” the picture is not good enough because you are not close enough”. I think this time I got a little closer than my usual comfort zone allowed.
I would not lie the whole time I was there taking pictures I was think of amazing work of Martin Parr which inspires so many of us. As we all mourn his untimely passing I would like to contribute my modest homage to the work of this photographic giant.
