Basilica de Covadonga

One Shot in Covadonga

By Fidel

This shot was taken on a trip to Spain over the summer. Didn’t really fit with the series I posted last. Its one of those places you visit because of its historical significance. Supposedly Spain’s reconquest from Muslim rule started here back in the 700’s.

It was a foggy, drizzling morning at sunrise, it always drizzles there. Took a few shots of the basilica head on, they were ok I thought. Packed it up, walked back downhill to my car and put my bag away. As I closed the door and turned around, I saw the stairs. Had to take it all out again for this shot. Happy I did, Its one of my favorites from the trip.

Shot was taken on Ilford HP5 with a Chamonix 45F-2 and a Nikkor 150mm f5.6.

Nice! Great mood from the clouds and the stairs leading into them.

It is truly a one shot story. The composition is compelling and the architecture is the kind of timeless thing made for beauty and majesty. This is why I like the square frame; everything is perfectly balanced and proportioned if you do it right.
