Things are a bit hectic in my life at the moment. Hot days – when, at 78, I don’t necessarily need to go out into the sun – alternate with rainy days, when I no longer want to come home completely soaked. On those days, I sit at home thinking about which analogue camera and which film I should take on my next walk or cycle ride. Then my bike had to go to the repair shop because the front tyre was faulty, and I had it serviced straight away to get it ready for the next few thousand kilometres. Nevertheless, I’ve shot a few rolls of film over the last few weeks – 120 roll film and 35mm film, in colour and black and white.
Here I’m sharing a photograph for you to look at, which is a blend of both. The picture was taken whilst out walking in my local area, by a lake that is many years old and which originally formed from a lowland bog. It is situated in a cross-border nature reserve on the German–Dutch border. It’s just under 30 km from my front door and boasts many lovely walking trails. At this spot by the lake, there’s a small museum dedicated to the history of the nature park, and a little further away, in an old, restored castle, there’s a training centre run by the public savings banks.
These five young people seem to be taking a break or simply passing the time until their group dinner at the conference centre, and are just gazing out across the lake. To relax.
The photograph was taken with a 1979 Olympus OM-1n SLR camera fitted with an Olympus Zuiko MC Auto-SD 1.4/50mm lens and using Kodak Ultramax 400 film. I converted the original JPEG file into a black-and-white photograph using Lightroom Classic, utilising the software’s green filter. The only further post-processing involved adjusting the tonal range.
Thank you for your interest.
