By Molly Kate

Today we are bringing you a new format for the news! For the near future, rather than individual articles for each story, we are going to test out a one summary piece with all the various news stories and announcements, aiming for a biweekly basis.

The past couple of weeks have seen quite a few announcements in the realm of film photography, so let’s dive in!

MIA Pinhole Camera Launches Pinhole Plates Made in the UK

MIA Pinhole Camera has launched an offering of proprietary pinhole plates that are manufactured in the UK. Andrea, who heads up the 3D-printed pinhole camera business, wanted to find and support a local UK pinhole plate manufacturer to bring his supply chain closer to home. The new partnership also allows MIA Pinhole Camera to experiment with various pinhole shapes and creative ideas such as cutting four holes instead of just one on a plate. The result is unique!

“The results of the trials were quite unexpected (as it often happens) and very nice, in my opinion…What I find interesting is how the 4 hole plate is rendered. I don’t think it can be something to use regularly, but it does give a very unique effect, which almost looks like a pixellated image.” – MIA Pinhole Blog Announcement

The plates are made from 316 stainless steel with a thickness of 0.04mm. Additionally, Andrea is inviting other pinhole businesses based in the UK to get in touch if they are interested in exploring a supply chain relationship with a local manufacturer.

I was chatting with Hamish about his pile of shoe-mounted meters and my dislike of the Lghtmtr app I have on my iPhone and decided that I'll give the C&F app a try. I had originally shied away from even trying it because it seems hung-up of stored film and providing a gear library. What I'm most interested in is the ability to capture/maintain a file of my shutter/aperture for a shot roll to allow review after the fact. I do find using the iPhone prior to each show awkward and noticed that on my first/last roll shot through the Leica IIIc, I began to not meter when I felt things were identical to a previously metered shot. I guess we'll see how that works when I get my film back (hopefully next week).

Just pulled the app and other than adding data, I can't figure out how to use it to obtain shutter speed and aperture.

Precisely what the “skip” button is for, when you know nothing is changing but the clock and maybe your location. Hope you enjoy the app! HMU if I can answer any questions for you!

The iPhone light meter apps aren't great so I agree with you there! Android has an excellent one though. However, the C&F app takes the cake for me! And yes, you can skip frames when the light doesn't really change if you want :) And yes the unlimited version I believe is 20 but that's lifetime so worth it for me!

Never mind me, I've got it working now. I suppose if I want to shoot more than 5 rolls, I need to pay?
