Real Photographers Forum – A highly biased opinion.

By Hamish Gill

I started RPF in June 2010, in my naivety I think I had aspirations of it being the next DPR. The reality is that I don’t have the time, effort, money, staff, knowledge, skills or benefit of timing and circumstance to achieve such a size of website. But, we have achieved something that I’m not sure the likes of DPR could ever muster, and that’s a positive atmosphere. Something I can of course only take as much credit for as the rest of the regulars. It is something that to my mind though surpasses any of my expectations and wishes I had for the place.

We could probably be accused of being a bit gentle on each other when it comes to constructive criticism… In fact, we have been accused of it. Yes constructive criticism is a vital part of learning, we just take the softly softly approach with each other. For me, for the most part, it’s just a place to show off some of my hobby photography in the knowledge that unless I specifically ask for peoples views, I’m not going to get shot down for it being dull or poor… and that is just fine by me!

There is a photography forum out there for everyone, if what I have described sounds like the sort of thing you could be a part of why not pop in and say hi … Just try not to take your self too seriously as it’s unlikely anyone else will! 😉

I started taking photos at the age of 9. Since then I've taken photos for a hobby, sold cameras for a living, and for a little more than decade I've been a professional photographer and, of course, weekly contributor to 35mmc.

[…] a crap load over the internet, for quite a few years now. He was one of the very first members of RPF way back when and has always been one of the most knowledgeable and capable photographers on there! […]
