NEWS: Silver & Light – An Analogue Photographic Exhibition

By Katie Cooper

In a celebration of the timeless art of analogue photography, Canwood Gallery is hosting an exhibition titled “Silver & Light: An Analogue Photographic Exhibition.” This remarkable showcase brings together 25 diverse photographers, each representing a unique facet of analogue photography and various traditional processes. The gallery has been transformed into a haven for lovers of film, showcasing the enduring beauty and craft of analogue photography throughout the entire month of April.

“Silver & Light” aims to spotlight the incredible range of artistic expressions that analogue photography offers. From classic black and white prints to experimental processes, the exhibition features an array of techniques, including cyanotype, photograms, and alternative printing methods. The participating photographers, hailing from different backgrounds and experiences, will provide visitors with a rich tapestry of visual stories.

The heart of the exhibition lies in the skilled hands of the analogue alchemists who have mastered the art of capturing moments on film. These photographers, with their passion for the craft, present a collective body of work that transcends the digital age, inviting viewers to appreciate the tangible and authentic nature of analogue photography.

“Silver & Light” delves into the concept of timelessness that analogue photography inherently possesses. The deliberate and thoughtful processes involved in film photography evoke a sense of nostalgia, creating images that stand the test of time. The exhibition aims to transport visitors to a bygone era where each photograph encapsulates a moment suspended in history.

Visitors to Canwood Gallery will have the opportunity to explore the myriad of processes involved in analogue photography. From the meticulous preparation of darkrooms to the chemical alchemy of developing film, the exhibition offers an immersive experience into the craftsmanship behind each photograph. The artists will be present throughout the month to engage with the audience, providing insights into their techniques and inspirations.

Nestled in the scenic beauty of Herefordshire, Canwood Gallery serves as an ideal backdrop for this analogue photography exhibition. The tranquil surroundings complement the nostalgic charm of the exhibited photographs, creating an atmosphere where visitors can fully immerse themselves in the world of analogue photography. The gallery is surrounded by a 10-acre sculpture garden, so not only can you enjoy the wonderful works inside the gallery, but there is plenty of space to explore and make a day of it!

To enrich the visitor experience, the exhibition will also feature interactive workshops and talks hosted by the participating photographers. Enthusiasts and budding artists will have the chance to gain hands-on experience in traditional photographic techniques and engage in insightful discussions about the enduring allure of analogue photography.

“Silver & Light: An Analogue Photographic Exhibition” at Canwood Gallery promises to be a visual feast for art lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. With 25 talented photographers presenting their unique perspectives, this exhibition invites us to slow down, appreciate the art of patience, and immerse ourselves in the timeless beauty of analogue photography. Prepare to be captivated by the magic of film and the enduring allure of photographs that truly stand the test of time.

It looks interesting, but it seems that www.canwoodgallery.com is not working. I get a message saying the address has been parked. Is there an alternative web page giving the boring but important details such as postcode, opening hours and entry fee? It would be nice to know those before planning a visit. Sorry if that information is out there and I missed it.
