The Most Commented upon Posts Published on 35mmc in 2025

By Hamish Gill

I feel like 35mmc has really flourished this year. I have no measure of that really, just a feeling that the community of writers and people who comment has grown closer. I think I have published more content this year than any previous, which is testament to the growth of the size of the community too.

Below you will find the top 9 posts that have received the mosts comments over the course of 2025 – I really would encourage everyone to take a dive back into the comment sections of these posts. Especially those of you who might be new to the website. This website has a good vibe – yes we get the odd snarky comment, and sometimes people disagree. But for the large part, commentary is courteous and constructive, if not overwhelmingly positive. I know I don’t comment much myself – but I read pretty much everything, and it continues to make me proud of this little corner of the internet we share! Long may it continue!

9. My five rules for taking street portraits – David Smith

David is an fantastic photographer, these portraits are testament to this fact – the nuggets of wisdom alongside them, and indeed those in the comment section, are well worth a read too!

8. MPP Microcord – A British TLR – Ibraar Hussain

Ibraar’s meandering thoughts about cameras he has shot in the past are always worth a read – this one is no exception!

7. A Few Frames with a Canon P and how I found myself on 35mmc – Walter Reumkens

Walter’s first post. He commented toward the end “In general, my pictures are rather “trivial”, nothing special, they just show our constantly changing – not always positive – immediate living environment” – that really struck a chord with me, I often feel the same about my photography. Walter’s words and photos inspired a fantastic response from the community though, so perhaps there’s more to his work than he thinks…

6. Coney Island with A Tele-Rolleiflex – By David Pauley

The first of two posts from David, this one with the Tele-Rolleiflex, the next with a non-tele Rolleiflex. I always enjoy David’s photography, and have a lot of admitatiuon for anyone who can wield a TLR to this level! The comments on both posts broadly match my opinions here too!

4. Can Time “Slip”? – One-Shot Story – Dave Powell

“ah! must be Dave Powell”, as Geoff comments – I couldn’t sum it up better!

3. Editing, manipulating, lying, fake – towards an agreement of the meaning of words – by Peter Schu

I had a feeling this one might end up on this list, in fact I thought it was headed for the top of the list for a while. A very interesting discussion had I think… I’m not sure a conclusion was come to mind, but it makes for good reading!

2. A Journey into Darkness and Light – In Search of a “Go To” Black & White film stock – By Scott Ferguson

The beginning of Scott’s journey into discovering different black and white film – the series really was an educational process for him, but I dare say a lot more people, including me got a great deal out of it too.

1. Travel Photography Tips – With a Contax G2 Kodak Ektachrome E100VS Fujichrome Astia 100 Kodak TRI-X 400 and Adox Silvermax – by Ibraar Hussain

For all he has put into this website over the course of this year, I am really pleased to see one of his posts at top spot. I don’t usually allow posts with the word ‘tips’ in the title… but read the post, it just fits the whole vibe of this website so well, I was more than happy to let it slide!

Long live 35mmc! It's great to see such activity and such wonderful stories, from such talented photographers. This community has been great to be a part of, even though I'm not the most frequent of commentators or posters, and seeing the rich array of experience everyone has, has been inspiration for myself too.

Happy new year, wonderful fellows!
