More fixes – feedback needed

By Hamish Gill

Yet another update…

I think the email issue with the website not opening properly when the “read more of this post” issue has been fixed. It’s hard to test this, so if anythone can go back and check on any posts that they remember not working from emails, that would be great.

Also, it looks like the ads issue with them appearing on first load from an email might have also been fixed. Again, very hard to check, so if anyone can confirm or let me know when/if it happens again.

Finally, the issue of comments being misallocated under “mine” when users are logged in has been fixed. Again, if you see any comments that aren’t yours under that heading let me know. The comment count should be right again too.

This really is getting very close to the website actually working properly now… though I’m worried about junxing it just writing that…

Shout if you spot anything else

Thanks

Hamish

All seems to work well now Hamish. Just one tiny comment: at the header of the emails there are two iterations of "35mmc" one normal and one in bold face that is a link to the site. Trivial but untidy!

Best
Michael

The link in the notification mail for this article worked as it should, so that seems to have fixed that problem. Thanks for all your efforts, Hamish. They make the site even more enjoyable.

Hi Hamish,

Have checked on this email and some in my wastebasket and they all work when "read more of this post" is clicked.

Many thanks

Andrew

It's working for me on current Firefox on Windows 11, including some past emails where the link didn't work before (led to blank page).

I didn't notice any ad issues before or after , although my browser config is a bit specific there anyway...

It opened fine with the link button now. I have just been clicking on the title of the article and opening it fine on my PC when the button stopped working.

I skimmed past this post when posted, but now while catching up on the post on my mobile this morning, I just wanted to report that the website is virtually unreadable on a mobile, endless ads in the posts, ad windows popping up as well, it’s horrendous. Honest feedback, is this the way it’s supposed to be now? It’s like trying to read something on the Manchester evening news website.

Hi Jonathan, I know it's a little heavy at the moment - we have to up and down the amount of ads depending on the financial needs of the website. At the moment they are particularly high as I am trying to recover from the site making a financial loss last year. If you would like to help, and get a better user experience, you can subscribe for £2.99 a month or submit a peice of content and get the site ad-free for life. I do try to make all this as fair and accessible as possible, but unfortunatly now the site is what it is, it cost a lot of money to run and maintain, and that means ads
