A little over two months after the release of the latest 35mm LomoChrome Purple edition, the 2021 Pétillant formula is now available in medium format!
The 120 version will be discounted similarly to its 35mm predecessor due to the potential of tiny black dots showing up on some frames. The impact of this depends on how the film is scanned, some scanners may pick it up more than others.
However, if you are a fan of Lomography films, you might embrace imperfections as the company ethos does. After spotting the dots in quality control, rather than wasting the batch of film by throwing it away, given the rising prices of film, Lomography saw the appetite for offering this special film for less.
Lomography explained in the 35mm film release, “With the current shortage of film supply worldwide and general waste concerns in mind, it was absolutely out of the question to discard such a perfectly fine millésime! Instead, we have chosen to offer this batch of film at a reduced price. We can’t wait to see how you’ll get creative with it!”

From reviewing the sample images as well as the community images posted on Lomography’s social site, the tiny black dots are not very noticeable, only upon close inspection of certain frames.
The medium format version offers the usual delight of experimental tones of LomoChrome Purple with a variable ISO from 100 to 400. This is a C41 process film and offers between 10-16 exposures depending on which medium format camera you have.
If you’d like to get your LomoChrome Purple medium format fix at the discounted price of 11.90 EUR, you can pre-order on the company’s website here. Shipping is expected to begin in June 2023.
